Newcason XC4070L inductance meter review/teardown

This is the cheapest inductance meter I could find on eBay, and here's a quick review/teardown into it!

Overall the meter seems of alright quality, although if you're buying it for the inductance feature. Note its lowest range is 20mH, which is still quite a bit larger than the uH range many hobbyists will need (that one caught me out). The capacitance ranges up to 200uF on it, which is decent for most applications of checking motor capacitors and the such, wouldn't trust the readings though. Resistor scales starts at 20 ohms and heads all the way up to 2000M ohms.

First things first, the packaging it came in had quite an interesting customs declaration on it, being classed as "game parts".

Looks fairly reasonable, for it's pricetag of $20. Has more of a resistance range than either inductance or capacitance though.

Jumping straight inside, pretty much all surface mount stuff apart from a few discrete components. I didn't grab any pictures of the other side, although it would be pretty close to the same! Soldering job seems alright, no joints were visibly cracked or nasty.

As always, they come with very well known batteries...

Here's the meter without it's branding shell, which just clips on.

And the branding shell, so this product is easily sold under numerous brands.

If you want to buy a meter just for a few readings, this will work for you, but be careful about the ranges, plus don't try to do any precise work with it! Cheers for reading!

  1. you didn't bother to test anything with it? A known Cap and or Coil?

  2. Good point. I'll give that a shot.
